Green was coded to be a rigid manifold nib with consistent lines, perfect for making carbon copies, and this one writes a 0.50mm downstroke over a 0.25mm cross stroke, about 2x, with the tines staying put under whatever pressure you give it. So plain handwriting picks up a little stub character from the tipping alone, a heavy hand gets the same line as a light one, and you can write fast without thinking about the nib. Flow is steady and there's no feedback to speak of. Best for daily notes and longhand, and for anyone who presses hard.

The stamp reads Green over Waterman's Ideal Canada, so it was made at Waterman's St. Lambert plant outside Montreal, and the color name on the nib puts it in the earlier run (Waterman stamped the grade color on No. 7 and No. 5 nibs through the early-to-mid 1930s, then switched to a plain 7). The No. 7 launched in 1927 at seven dollars, which is where the name comes from, the old number code having stopped applying by then: a No. 55 body with a larger keyhole nib and a casein cap band in the same color as the nib grade. Green was the rigid one in that ladder, the carbon-copy nib.

I've rated this B+, the gold is bright with only slight signs of use, the imprint crisp, tines even and original with the tipping intact. I aligned the tines, smoothed and polished the tipping, then heat-set the nib to a matched red Nikko ebonite feed in the JOWO #6 housing and tuned the flow as a complete unit.

Tested on Tomoe River 68gsm White with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black.

https://heronsmooncake.com/products/jowo-6-nib-unit-watermans-5-ideal-14kt-gold-broad-super-flex-stub-copy
