Bayard Baby Safety, Sheraton Chased Mottled Ebonite GPT, #2 18kt Bayard Nib
đź“’ History/Provenance
In 1912, Etienne Forbin, a Parisian bookseller, trademarked the "Bayard" name while distributing various American pen products. By 1922, the Panici Frères (Panici Brothers), grandchildren of Forbin, took over the Bayard name and began pen production. This started the legacy of Bayard and established themselves as one of the great pen makers of Europe that rivaled the Big Four (Waterman, Parker, Sheaffer and Wahl-Eversharp) in the United States.
Bayards are known for their distinctively crisp lined chasing across the pen barrels that play with the light extremely well as the quality of the ebonite used for their pens was top notch in both polished shine and durability (lightweight even when thick).
🧪 QA & Recommendation
A grail noodle nib from Bayard with an EF (Etienne Forbin) engraving versus the later year PF ("Panici Frères"). These nibs were hand-engraved and the tooling marks can be seen on the nib's engraved lettering. Superbly soft bouncy nib that glides through flourishes with incredible controlTested on Rhodia 80gsm A5 Pad, inked with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black.

Appendix for Listing Details
Sweating the details is fundamental to understanding, appreciating, and knowing the peice of history you have in your hands.
All pens are filled and tested, not just dipped in ink, which does not reflect writing characteristics whatsoever.
Line Variation Standard
Different restorers have different standards for line sizing and especially for vintage pens, the printed tipping size will not always be accurate due to repairs/grinds/etc. Please use this as a frame of reference for consistency.
Flexibility Standard
Nib flexibility is such a controversial topic, but there needs to be some level of consistency so please take this table as a frame of reference for my restorations and as someone who is writing in a calligraphic/spencerian style of cursive script. Without objective measurements, flexibility terms such as wet noodle are useless as someone with stronger forearms and grip strength will make even manifold nibs into a wet noodle.
