G.A. Mercier 6 Safety, Chased Mottled Ebonite Gold Bands, #6 18ct Flex

📒 History/Provenance

• G.A. Mercier was a french luxury pen company specialized in ebonite, and frequently decorated with solid precious metal bands of gold or silver, but are gold-filled on this pen. French made pens rarely had nibs larger than size 5, size 8 are rather mythical, so this is a very rare piece in this condition.

• This specimen has a rare night-and-day chased pattern lined across the middle of the barrel with the hallmark imprints: G.A. Mercier, Marque Deposee, J. Mercier Fondateu, Toulon 1915.

🧪 QA & Recommendation

• Superb long tines on this #6 nib that has amazing flex and snap. Tines are on the sharper side for super crisp line edges but will required a trained hand to get the perfect hairlines. An absolute delight to load up ink and journal away, an exceptionally satisfying nib to journal with and the larger girth allows for very relaxed hand positioning.

• Tested on Rhodia 80gsm A5 pad and Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue Ink.

🔧 Restoration Commentary

• Tactile and visible chasing and hallmark imprints on barrel.

• Toledo clip in NOS condition. Some brassing to barrel bands.

• New tight and lubricated o-ring seals on the reverse pinned knob.

• Ebonite rejuvenated and lightly hand polished, "softness" of ebonite restored.

• Nib heat set and tuned for flex/smoothness
