A soft, smooth manifold. The 0.25mm tipping holds a steady F line under any pressure you give it, and the thick gold cushions the point so the firmness never feels like a nail. Press harder and you get a slightly thicker, wetter line while the tines hold their set.
Manifold nibs existed because offices needed duplicates before photocopiers: you wrote over a stack of carbon transfer sheets, and the nib had to be pressed hard enough to print every layer. That is why the gold is cut thick, and you can feel it in this nib's 2.265g heft. The Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. stamp places it in the mid-1920s through the 1930s, when Waterman sold the Manifold grade beside its flex lines for exactly that desk work.
It will perform well even on less absorbent paper given it's strict ink flow regulation, so copy paper for the most part should perform well (tested on some generic Hammermill), will of course perform best on fountain pen friendly paper.
After tuning, the tip was smoothed and polished, the nib heat-set to an ebonite feed in the Nikko black ebonite JOWO #6 housing, and the assembly run through a full writing test. B+ for a clean nib with only slight use and a sharp imprint.
Tested on Tomoe River 52gsm cream with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black.

Sweating the details is fundamental to understanding, appreciating, and knowing the peice of history you have in your hands.
All pens are filled and tested, not just dipped in ink, which does not reflect writing characteristics whatsoever.
Line Variation Standard
Different restorers have different standards for line sizing and especially for vintage pens, the printed tipping size will not always be accurate due to repairs/grinds/etc. Please use this as a frame of reference for consistency.
Flexibility Standard
Nib flexibility is such a controversial topic, but there needs to be some level of consistency so please take this table as a frame of reference for my restorations and as someone who is writing in a calligraphic/spencerian style of cursive script. Without objective measurements, flexibility terms such as wet noodle are useless as someone with stronger forearms and grip strength will make even manifold nibs into a wet noodle.
