A keyhole English #4 with wide tipping and a slight but noticeable stub grind, so your handwriting comes out with a bit of flair before you ever add pressure. Unflexed you're writing 0.70mm down strokes against 0.50mm cross strokes, and the tipping keeps both directions super smooth. Push into the flex and the tines open to 4B at 1.50mm, a 3x spread starting from an already broad line, so the swell reads as bold shading in everyday writing.
The keyhole vent is debatable on its performance, but there's no question its aesthetics and marketing power. Waterman made the shape the signature of the No. 7 line it launched in 1927, and it shows up on later ENGLAND-stamped production like this #4 as well.
B grade, light use only, the imprint strong and the tines sound and original. Tines aligned and tipping polished at the bench, the nib heat-set with its matched ebonite feed into the red Nikko ebonite JOWO #6 housing, and the whole assembly put through a writing test.
Tested on Tomoe River 68gsm White A5 with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black.

All pens are filled and tested, not just dipped in ink, which does not reflect writing characteristics whatsoever.
Line Variation Standard
Different restorers have different standards for line sizing and especially for vintage pens, the printed tipping size will not always be accurate due to repairs/grinds/etc. Please use this as a frame of reference for consistency.
Flexibility Standard
Nib flexibility is such a controversial topic, but there needs to be some level of consistency so please take this table as a frame of reference for my restorations and as someone who is writing in a calligraphic/spencerian style of cursive script. Without objective measurements, flexibility terms such as wet noodle are useless as someone with stronger forearms and grip strength will make even manifold nibs into a wet noodle.
