Sheaffer Balance Junior, Green Striated Celluloid GPT, Feather #2 14k
Sheaffer's Junior line ran through the celluloid era as the affordable companion to the Lifetime Balance flagship. Same Balance shape vocabulary introduced in 1929, sized down for shirt-pocket carry, with the W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co. Fort Madison imprint stamped cleanly into the barrel. Green Striated is a quieter colorway in the Sheaffer palette, a dark green pearl over black that reads as professional. The celluloid is mint on this example, with no UV bleaching, no shrinkage, and no crystallization. The ink window stays clear and transparent. The gold-plated trim shows no brassing. Meaningful flex on a Sheaffer #2 is rare. This one has been tuned and ground into Feather Flex territory, with 0.20mm horizontal hairlines opening to 1.59mm at 170g for a 7.95× line variation in the EF to 4B range. Brush-soft response on a Sheaffer body, with long tine flex that earns the "noodle" character collectors talk about. Slight cursive italic in the tipping (0.20mm horizontal, 0.30mm vertical). The trade-off is in the feed: railroading appears when writing too quickly, but the feed has been left unmodified so collectors who prefer drier hairlines can use it as-is. Wet inks load the feed faster and reduce the chance of railroading. The feed channels can be opened on request after purchase if a faster flow is preferred. Period flex shoppers usually go to Watermans, Mabie Todd, or Conway Stewart for this kind of response. A Feather Flex tuned Sheaffer in a Junior body is an unusually compact package for the character, well-suited to a Spencerian or Copperplate writer who wants pocket-portable flex in a recognizable American body. Celluloid lightly polished and waxed. Nib and feed tuned. Fitted with a silicone sac, so please store upright just in case there is nib creep. This is a trade off to use all inks regardless if they are vintage-safe or not, and will not off gas (won't degrade celluloid nitrate). Tested on Rhodia 90gsm ivory with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black.

Appendix for Listing Details
Sweating the details is fundamental to understanding, appreciating, and knowing the peice of history you have in your hands.
All pens are filled and tested, not just dipped in ink, which does not reflect writing characteristics whatsoever.
Line Variation Standard
Different restorers have different standards for line sizing and especially for vintage pens, the printed tipping size will not always be accurate due to repairs/grinds/etc. Please use this as a frame of reference for consistency.
Flexibility Standard
Nib flexibility is such a controversial topic, but there needs to be some level of consistency so please take this table as a frame of reference for my restorations and as someone who is writing in a calligraphic/spencerian style of cursive script. Without objective measurements, flexibility terms such as wet noodle are useless as someone with stronger forearms and grip strength will make even manifold nibs into a wet noodle.
