Unbranded | Glass Nib Safety | Black Chased Ebonite | #4 Clear Glass Nib
A huge clear glass nib, a full size 4 or 5, on an unbranded French safety in black chased ebonite.
It writes like a very good pencil. The point lays down a 0.25mm line with very nice control over the ink, and you can adjust the flow just by rotating to a different side of the glass, drier on one side, wetter on another.
There's no maker's imprint anywhere on it. The construction points to Unic or Météore, both Paris houses making safeties like this in the 1930s, and it uses an American-style friction-pin safety mechanism.
A2, minty, with sharp chasing. Torn down and rebuilt, fresh cork and o-rings, fresh silicone grease, friction pin checked, and the nib tested through a full rotation on paper.
Tested on Tomoe River 68gsm A5 white with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black.

Abbreviated Filling Instructions
Line Variation Standard
Different restorers have different standards for line sizing and especially for vintage pens, the printed tipping size will not always be accurate due to repairs/grinds/etc. Please use this as a frame of reference for consistency.
Flexibility Standard
Nib flexibility is such a controversial topic, but there needs to be some level of consistency so please take this table as a frame of reference for my restorations and as someone who is writing in a calligraphic/spencerian style of cursive script. Without objective measurements, flexibility terms such as wet noodle are useless as someone with stronger forearms and grip strength will make even manifold nibs into a wet noodle.
