Waterman's | 0552½ V Pen & Pencil Set | Gold Sheraton Overlay | #2 Flex
Waterman's | 0552½ V Pen & Pencil Set | Gold Sheraton Overlay | #2 Flex
A matched ringtop pen and pencil that stayed together for a century, both in the same gold-filled Sheraton overlay, both near mint. Most sets got separated somewhere over the decades, and this one is still complete and still matching.
Sheraton is fine parallel line work with small accents, named for the English furniture style, and in the hand it reads simple yet refined and elegant. Exceptional condition on both pieces, over equally clean ebonite. This is the pocket ringtop take on the classic 52-size platform; decoded, 0552½ V runs gold-filled (05), lever (5), #2 nib, slender (½), vest (V).
The New York 2 writes with fantastic juicy snapback and a more restrained max flex, about 5x from its unflexed fine line to a 5B swell. Post the cap on the ringtop and you're holding a standard-length pen; capped, it's pocket size.
Graded B as a set, near mint across both pieces. The pen gets its silicone sac at service so you can use any ink (even iroshizuku :))
Tested on Tomoe River 68gsm White with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black.

Appendix for Listing Details
Sweating the details is fundamental to understanding, appreciating, and knowing the peice of history you have in your hands.
All pens are filled and tested, not just dipped in ink, which does not reflect writing characteristics whatsoever.
Line Variation Standard
Different restorers have different standards for line sizing and especially for vintage pens, the printed tipping size will not always be accurate due to repairs/grinds/etc. Please use this as a frame of reference for consistency.
Flexibility Standard
Nib flexibility is such a controversial topic, but there needs to be some level of consistency so please take this table as a frame of reference for my restorations and as someone who is writing in a calligraphic/spencerian style of cursive script. Without objective measurements, flexibility terms such as wet noodle are useless as someone with stronger forearms and grip strength will make even manifold nibs into a wet noodle.
