A thin 0.15mm cross stroke, which is even thinner than what most Platinum 3776 EUF nibs can consistently write at, is matched with a soft flexible bounce. Add some moderate pressure and you will add a 6x spread to your EEF hairline up to BB.
This late 1930’s to 1940’s Waterman’s size 5 nib has a circular breather hole to denote it's less flexible status in the nib line up, which was generally adopted after the 1930's. Does not mean they are always stiff manifolds but they are more rare to find with flexible tines, as the industry shifted to ballpoint pens in the 1940's. These nibs served bookkeepers and clerks writing small, exact figures all day and the soft springy gold nib made writing much less tiring.
Tuned at the bench, the tipping smoothed and brought up to a polish, then heat-set over a matched ebonite feed in the Nikko black ebonite JOWO #6 housing and writing-tested as a complete unit. Graded B, light wear from use, the imprint clear and the structure sound.
Tested on Tomoe River 52gsm cream with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black.

Sweating the details is fundamental to understanding, appreciating, and knowing the peice of history you have in your hands.
All pens are filled and tested, not just dipped in ink, which does not reflect writing characteristics whatsoever.
Line Variation Standard
Different restorers have different standards for line sizing and especially for vintage pens, the printed tipping size will not always be accurate due to repairs/grinds/etc. Please use this as a frame of reference for consistency.
Flexibility Standard
Nib flexibility is such a controversial topic, but there needs to be some level of consistency so please take this table as a frame of reference for my restorations and as someone who is writing in a calligraphic/spencerian style of cursive script. Without objective measurements, flexibility terms such as wet noodle are useless as someone with stronger forearms and grip strength will make even manifold nibs into a wet noodle.
